My name is Naomi Tratar, and I live in Culver City, California. A native Californian, I grew up in Long Beach and graduated from UCLA with a degree in sociology. After college I was motivated more and more by an inner need to express and share my creativity. I soon discovered the amazing craft of metal smithing and thus my career as a jeweler began. The inspiration behind my jewelry comes from my love of nature, most especially the California Coast Line with the vast Pacific Ocean and the Redwood Trees. The chance to share my deep appreciation and love of nature via the world of metal smithing continues to inspire me as I evolve as an artist. I've been making jewelry since 2005. I studied jewelry design and techniques in Venice Beach, California with master metal smith Brad Smith. Over the course of my years as a jeweler, I continue to grow and master many skills, but I never stop being fascinated by the transformation of metal at the artist's hand. My work enables my continued exploration and mastering of the basics of metal work: the use of a hand held jeweler's saw (which I use to cut out my sea and tree motifs), soldering to adhere layers of metal, and the use of hammers for forging and creating texture. For the past 9 years, I have been displaying and selling my sterling silver and copper jewelry at festivals, art shows, galleries, and online.
